Okay, some info about Johnny's new movies.
The Rum Diary:
Begun in 1959 by a then-twenty-two-year-old Hunter S. Thompson, The Rum Diary is a brilliantly tangled love story of jealousy, treachery and violent alcoholic lust in the Caribbean boomtown that was San Juan, Puerto Rico, in the late 1950s. (According to imdb.com.)
Interestingly enough, Johnny's the executive producer!
Also in the movie is Josh Hartnett.
Filming now scheduled for March.
Cast includes all the original people (including Geoffrey Rush), and Stellan Skarsgard (Cerdic in King Arthur) as 'Bootstraps' Bill Turner! Other character names include Captain Bellamy, Marty, Tia Dalma (supposedly a gypsy), and Cheung Po Tsai (a fifteenth-century pirate). Sounds like we're going to see a bit of the past here...
They also got a new composer (Klaus Badelt was the original). The new guy is Alan Silvestri. Don't get your hopes up, everyone- a Troy could happen here. With luck, he'll be allowed to build on Klaus' themes, but the music could go wicked downhill like in Troy. The final score was crap compared to what we saw in the trailers.
Other upcoming movies are Corpse Bride (animated, by Tim Burton who did The Nightmare Before Christmas, coming out 2005), Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory (with Christopher Lee as Willy Wonka's dad, coming out 2005), The Diving Bell and the Butterfly (2005, he stars in it), and Shantaram (plays a guy named Lindsay; this comes out 2007).
